Hosea 2:13

What does Hosea 2:13 mean?
God is speaking here about consequences that come from chasing after false gods and neglecting the real relationship with him. The "Baals" were idols that people in ancient Israel worshipped instead of trusting God, and the earrings and jewels represent the outward trappings and attractions that drew people away, much like anything that captivates our attention and affection today. When we're absorbed in pursuing things that don't truly satisfy or honoring things that don't deserve our devotion, we naturally drift away from what matters most. God's promise to "visit" these days means he won't ignore the pattern, but will allow people to experience the natural emptiness and broken consequences that come from abandonment, not out of cruelty but as a kind of wake-up call to turn back.
