Hebrews 3:11

What does Hebrews 3:11 mean?
God is speaking here about the Israelites who wandered in the desert for forty years after leaving Egypt. Even though he'd freed them and promised to bring them into a good land, they repeatedly doubted him and complained, so he declared that generation would not experience the rest and security of that promised home. The passage uses this old story to warn a community of early Christians not to harden their hearts against God the way those ancestors did, or they too might miss out on what he's offering them. It's a sobering reminder that God takes our choices and our faith seriously, and turning away from him has real consequences.
