Hebrews 2:17
“Therefore he was obligated in all things to be made like his brothers, that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.”
What does Hebrews 2:17 mean?
Jesus had to fully become human, experiencing what we experience, so he could genuinely understand our struggles and represent us before God. When you suffer or face temptation, he isn't distant from those realities, because he lived through them too. His complete identification with humanity allows him to be both compassionate (merciful) and trustworthy (faithful) as our bridge to God, which matters deeply when he offers forgiveness for our failures. This verse says his humanity wasn't a limitation but rather what made him capable of doing the reconciling work that brings us back to God.
