What does Hebrews 12:24 mean?
Jesus stands as the bridge between God and humanity, making a way for us to come into relationship with God that wasn't possible before. His blood, shed on the cross, represents a sacrifice so complete and powerful that it permanently transforms how we're seen by God, washing away what separates us from him. The comparison to Abel's blood (from the first book of Genesis, where Abel's murder cried out to God for justice) shows us something beautiful: where Abel's blood demanded justice and vengeance, Jesus's blood speaks of forgiveness and restoration. His sacrifice doesn't call for our punishment but for our healing and reconciliation with God. This is what makes the new covenant "new"—it's not about appeasement or endless religious effort, but about the finished work of someone who loves us enough to give everything.
