What does Haggai 2:12 mean?
This question comes from a practical debate among the priests about spiritual purity. The prophet Haggai is asking whether holiness spreads by physical contact the way uncleanness does, and the priests correctly answer that it doesn't work that way. You can't make something sacred just by touching it with something else that's already sacred. The deeper point is that Haggai is challenging the people's thinking about their own efforts to rebuild God's temple.
