What does Haggai 2:11 mean?

God is directing Haggai to consult the priests about a specific teaching from Jewish law. In ancient Israel, the priests were the keepers of Torah and religious instruction, so when important questions arose about what was permitted or required, people would bring them to the priesthood for guidance. What follows in the next verses reveals that God is using this legal question as a teaching moment, showing the people something important about how holiness and uncleanness spread. It's a way of helping them understand a spiritual principle through their own established system of learning.
