What does Habakkuk 1:16 mean?
The prophet Habakkuk is describing how the powerful Babylonian empire has become so absorbed in its own success that it treats the tools of conquest like gods. When someone "sacrifices to his net," it means they've begun to worship their own methods and power, forgetting where true blessing actually comes from. This is a picture of spiritual blindness that comes with unchecked ambition—when we become so focused on what we've achieved or how we got there that we lose sight of God's role in our lives, we risk making idols out of our own accomplishments.
