Genesis 9:16
βThe rainbow will be in the cloud. I will look at it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.ββ
What does Genesis 9:16 mean?
After the flood, God gives humanity a visible sign of His promise: He will never again destroy all life on earth with water. Every time a rainbow appears in the sky, it's meant to be a reminder that God remembers His commitment, not just to people but to all living creatures. Rather than God needing to be reminded, this is God's way of giving us something tangible to hold onto when we see it, so we can remember too. It's a beautiful image of covenant, where a natural phenomenon becomes sacred because it carries the weight of God's faithful word.
