What does Genesis 50:5 mean?
Joseph is asking Pharaoh for permission to leave Egypt temporarily so he can honor his father Jacob's dying wish to be buried in Canaan, the family's ancestral homeland. This request shows how deeply Joseph values keeping his promise to his father, even though he's now a powerful official in Egypt and could easily ignore it.
