Genesis 50:4
“When the days of weeping for him were past, Joseph spoke to the house of Pharaoh, saying, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, please speak in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,”
What does Genesis 50:4 mean?
Joseph had just buried his father Jacob after a period of mourning, and now he needed to ask Pharaoh's permission to leave Egypt temporarily to complete his family's burial rituals back in Canaan. Even though Joseph held tremendous power and influence in Egypt, he still had to respectfully approach the king through official channels rather than simply taking what he needed. This moment shows us that genuine respect and humility don't disappear just because someone gains authority or favor. Joseph's careful, courteous approach reflects both his character and his understanding that some doors, no matter how much influence you have, still need to be asked to open.
