Genesis 50:18
“His brothers also went and fell down before his face; and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.””
What does Genesis 50:18 mean?
After years of separation and the death of their father Jacob, Joseph's brothers are terrified he'll finally seek revenge for selling him into slavery decades earlier. They throw themselves on the ground before him, offering themselves as his servants, essentially asking for mercy. This moment shows the weight of guilt and fear that had followed them for so long. But it also sets up Joseph's response in the next verses, where he chooses forgiveness instead of the power he clearly has. Sometimes the hardest conversations happen when we're vulnerable enough to admit we were wrong and someone else has the power to hurt us. That's when real reconciliation becomes possible.
