Genesis 46:33
“It will happen, when Pharaoh summons you, and will say, ‘What is your occupation?’”
What does Genesis 46:33 mean?
When Jacob and his family are about to meet Pharaoh in Egypt, they receive practical advice about what to expect. Pharaoh will ask them directly about their work and livelihood, which was a standard question Egyptian rulers asked of foreigners entering the country. This wasn't unusual curiosity, but rather a way for Pharaoh to understand who these people were and where they might fit into Egyptian society. The verse reminds us that sometimes straightforward honesty about who we are and what we do is exactly what's needed in new or uncertain situations.
