What does Genesis 46:32 mean?
Jacob's sons are about to meet Pharaoh, and they're anxious about how the most powerful man in Egypt will receive them. So Judah coaches them on what to say: they're shepherds, plain and simple, and they've brought their animals and possessions with them. It's honest and straightforward, but there's a touch of strategy too. In Egypt at that time, shepherds weren't especially valued (the text elsewhere notes Egyptians found them distasteful), so this humble self-description might actually help them blend in rather than threaten Pharaoh's power. Sometimes the best way forward isn't to hide who we are, but to present ourselves truthfully and let God work with that reality.
