Genesis 45:9
“Hurry, and go up to my father, and tell him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says, “God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me. Don’t wait.”
What does Genesis 45:9 mean?
Joseph had just revealed himself to his brothers after years of separation, and his first thought wasn't anger or revenge but reconciliation. He's telling them to rush back to their aging father Jacob with incredible news: the son they thought was dead is alive, powerful, and wants to see him. The urgency in "Don't wait" shows how deeply Joseph longed to be reunited with his father and how much he wanted to end the family's pain. What's beautiful here is that Joseph credits God, not himself, for his rise to power. Even in his moment of triumph, he recognizes that his position came through God's providence, not just his own abilities. He uses his authority not to punish his brothers for selling him into slavery but to welcome them and provide for them during a coming famine. This is a picture of someone who has let go of bitterness and found freedom through faith.
