What does Genesis 45:10 mean?
Joseph is offering his family a place to settle during a severe famine, and this offer matters because he's positioning them close enough that he can care for them directly. After revealing himself to his brothers, Joseph wants to make sure his aging father Jacob and everyone he loves won't just survive the crisis, but will be protected and provided for through his position as Egypt's second-in-command. The promise to include "your children's children" shows Joseph thinking beyond immediate survival to the security and flourishing of his family line for generations. Goshen was a region in Egypt's Nile Delta where shepherds could raise livestock and live apart from the Egyptian population, making it ideal for Jacob's clan to maintain their pastoral way of life while being near Joseph's provision and protection.
