Genesis 45:3
“Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Does my father still live?” His brothers couldn’t answer him; for they were terrified at his presence.”
What does Genesis 45:3 mean?
Joseph's brothers have no words. After years of selling their youngest brother into slavery and lying to their father about his fate, they suddenly find themselves face to face with the powerful Egyptian official they've been dealing with, only to discover it's Joseph himself, alive and risen to prominence. The terror they feel isn't just shock, it's the crushing weight of their own guilt meeting the person they wronged most. In that moment, they're paralyzed, unable to speak because they're facing both the brother they betrayed and the reckoning they surely thought would never come.
