What does Genesis 43:4 mean?
Judah is speaking to Jacob, trying to convince his father to let Benjamin join the family trip to Egypt. The brothers need to buy grain during a famine, but the Egyptian official (Joseph, whom they don't recognize) has insisted on seeing their youngest brother as proof they're trustworthy. Judah is essentially saying, "We can't do this without Benjamin, so we have to take him with us." It's a moment of hard truth: sometimes moving forward means trusting others with what matters most to us, even when we're afraid. For Jacob, this means releasing his last connection to his deceased wife Rachel and risking his beloved son.
