What does Genesis 43:3 mean?
Judah is reminding his father Jacob of a non-negotiable condition: the Egyptian official (who is actually Joseph in disguise, though they don't know it) has made clear that he won't meet with them again unless Benjamin comes along. This isn't a casual preference but a serious oath the official swore by his life. Judah is essentially saying, "Dad, we have no choice here—if we want to buy more grain and survive this famine, Benjamin has to go with us."
