Genesis 41:14

Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh.

What does Genesis 41:14 mean?

Joseph had been imprisoned for years after being falsely accused, and suddenly the most powerful man in Egypt wanted to see him. Before appearing before Pharaoh, Joseph took time to shave and change into clean clothes, showing respect and preparing himself properly for this unexpected opportunity. It's a small but meaningful detail: even in his desperation to finally be released, Joseph didn't rush in looking disheveled or unkempt. This moment reminds us that sometimes preparation and dignity matter, and that we can honor both God and the circumstances we find ourselves in, whether we're meeting someone important or simply showing up for the people around us.
