Genesis 40:7
“He asked Pharaoh’s officers who were with him in custody in his master’s house, saying, “Why do you look so sad today?””
What does Genesis 40:7 mean?
Joseph notices his fellow prisoners are downcast and simply asks why. It's a small moment, but it shows real attention to others even in his own difficult circumstances, trapped in Pharaoh's prison after being falsely accused. When we're suffering, it's easy to turn inward, yet Joseph's instinct is to notice and care about those around him. Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can offer someone isn't advice or solutions, but genuine curiosity about what they're carrying.
