What does Genesis 35:13 mean?
Jacob had just encountered God at Bethel, where the Lord renewed the covenant promises made to Abraham and changed Jacob's name to Israel. This simple sentence captures the moment when that divine presence—which had been unmistakably real and personal—lifted and withdrew. It's the kind of detail that makes the encounter feel genuine: there's a before and after, a moment when God was visibly present and a moment when Jacob was left alone with what he'd been told.
