What does Genesis 31:48 mean?
After years of tension between Jacob and his father-in-law Laban, they finally decided to part ways. To mark their agreement and ensure neither would cross into the other's territory with hostile intent, they built a pile of stones together as a physical boundary and reminder of their covenant. Laban called this cairn "Galeed," which means "heap of witness" in Hebrew, because the stones would stand as evidence that both men had kept their word.
