What does Genesis 31:47 mean?
Jacob and his father-in-law Laban had just made a peace agreement after years of tension and family conflict. To mark this treaty, they built a pile of stones together, and each man gave it a name in his own language: Laban used Aramaic while Jacob used Hebrew, but both names meant essentially the same thing, "heap of witness." It's a beautiful moment of reconciliation where two people acknowledge their agreement and call on those stones to stand as evidence that they've made peace.
