“When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too.”
What does Genesis 3:6 mean?
The fruit became attractive to Eve in three ways: it promised nourishment, beauty, and knowledge. Each appeal made sense on its own, which is part of what made the choice so human and understandable. Yet beneath all these reasonable-sounding reasons lay something else: a decision to take what God had withheld, to trust her own judgment over His word. She shared the fruit with Adam, and he chose the same path. This moment shows how temptation often works in our lives, too, by wrapping itself in things that seem good and wise on the surface, while inviting us to ignore what we know God has said.
