Genesis 3:21
βYahweh God made coats of animal skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them.β
What does Genesis 3:21 mean?
After Adam and Eve realized their nakedness and shame following their disobedience, God could have left them in that state of exposure and regret. Instead, he made garments for them from animal skins, which means an animal had to die to cover their bodies. This act shows God's compassion breaking through the consequences of their choice, not abandoning them even when they've done wrong. Many readers see in this moment a foreshadowing of grace itself: that our shame is covered not by our own efforts, but by sacrifice and a gift we don't deserve.
