What does Genesis 3:11 mean?

God's questions here come immediately after Adam and Eve realize they're naked and feel ashamed. Rather than accusing them outright, God is asking them to trace back their own thoughts, to recognize that this awareness of shame and wrongness didn't come from Him. His command had been simple and clear: don't eat from that one tree. By asking "who told you," God is inviting them to acknowledge what they've actually done and to see how quickly disobedience changes everything, including how they see themselves. It's a moment of truth-telling, and God's tone seems to offer them the chance to simply admit what happened rather than hide.
