“Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.””
What does Genesis 28:15 mean?
Jacob was alone and afraid, fleeing from his brother's anger with nothing but a walking staff and the clothes on his back. In this vulnerable moment, God came to him in a dream and made a promise: "I am with you." That simple declaration anchors everything that follows. God isn't just making a deal—he's committing himself to Jacob's protection and to seeing his purposes fulfilled, no matter how far Jacob wanders or how long it takes. The promise "I will not leave you" is especially tender because Jacob had just deceived his father and lost everything familiar.
