Genesis 28:12
“He dreamed. Behold, a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God ascending and descending on it.”
What does Genesis 28:12 mean?
Jacob is fleeing after deceiving his father, scared and alone, when God meets him through this dream. He sees a stairway connecting earth to heaven with angels moving both up and down it, a vivid sign that heaven isn't distant or closed off but actively connected to where he is. This image reassures Jacob (and us) that God's presence and care reach into our ordinary, broken circumstances, and that there's constant communication happening between the divine and human worlds. Even when we feel like outsiders or runaways, God hasn't abandoned the connection.
