What does Genesis 27:24 mean?
Jacob's simple, direct lie cuts to the heart of this uncomfortable story. Isaac is old and blind, and Jacob, coached by his mother Rebekah, has dressed in his brother's clothes and covered his skin with goat hair to deceive his aging father into giving him the blessing meant for Esau, the firstborn. When Isaac asks this probing question, Jacob answers without hesitation, and we're left sitting in the tension of the moment.
