What does Genesis 27:14 mean?
Jacob goes to get the animals his mother Rebekah has asked him to bring, and she prepares the kind of meal their father Isaac loves. This is the setup for one of Scripture's most painful deceptions: Rebekah is orchestrating a plan to help Jacob trick his aging, nearly-blind father into giving him the blessing meant for his older twin, Esau. What's striking here is how naturally everyone moves forward with their roles, as if this scheme is just another family meal. The cooking, the fetching, the preparation, all seem ordinary, yet they're part of a plan that will fracture this family for years. Sometimes the verses that show us sin at work are the quiet ones, where we watch people we might otherwise sympathize with gradually commit to something they know is wrong, one small step at a time.
