What does Genesis 27:12 mean?
Jacob is wrestling with the risk of his mother's scheme to trick his elderly, blind father Isaac into giving him his brother Esau's blessing. He's worried that if Isaac touches him during the deception, he'll immediately know something is wrong, and the whole plan will unravel, exposing Jacob as a fraud. What really troubles Jacob isn't just getting caught, though, it's the spiritual consequence: he fears that pursuing a blessing through lies will actually bring him a curse instead. There's something painfully human here. Jacob wants what his brother is supposed to receive, and he's considering dishonest means to get it, yet he's still afraid of the moral weight of that choice. He's not worried about the blessing itself being fake or unearned at this point, just about being discovered. Still, his fear of the curse reveals that some part of him knows deceiving his father is seriously wrong, even as he prepares to go through with it anyway.
