What does Genesis 20:8 mean?
When Abimelech wakes up and realizes he's unknowingly taken Abraham's wife, he doesn't keep it quiet. He gathers his entire household and staff and tells them everything that happened, which sends them into a state of real fear. This wasn't just about personal embarrassment, though that was surely part of it, the king was terrified because God had actually intervened in the situation the night before, making it clear that touching Sarah would bring death to him and his household. His servants' fear reflects how seriously people took God's direct warnings in those ancient times, when such divine intervention felt immediate and very real.
