Genesis 17:21
βBut my covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year.ββ
What does Genesis 17:21 mean?
God is making a promise so specific that it cuts through all doubt. After years of waiting and the confusion of Abraham's attempt to help God's plan along with Hagar, the Lord is saying: this will happen with Sarah, not through any other arrangement, and it will happen in exactly one year. The covenant, God's binding commitment to bless Abraham's descendants and work through his family line, will flow through Isaac specifically. This wasn't just about having a childβit was about God's faithful promise coming true on God's timeline, not human desperation or workarounds.
