Genesis 15:3
“Abram said, “Behold, to me you have given no children: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir.””
What does Genesis 15:3 mean?
Abram is pouring out his frustration to God. He and his wife Sarai have waited years for a child, and nothing has happened, so he's assumed his servant (born in his household) will inherit everything he's worked to build. There's real pain in these words—the ache of unfulfilled longing and the practical problem of what happens to his life's work when he's gone. What makes this moment powerful is that Abram speaks honestly to God rather than pretending everything is fine, and God's response (which follows immediately) doesn't scold him for his doubt but instead reaffirms the promise with incredible tenderness.
