Galatians 5:8
“This persuasion is not from him who calls you.”
What does Galatians 5:8 mean?
Paul is warning the Galatians that someone has been misleading them, and he's saying this false teaching definitely didn't come from God. The Galatians had been living in freedom through faith in Jesus, but other teachers had convinced them they needed to follow strict Jewish laws to truly be saved, and Paul is essentially saying, "That message isn't from God, who called you to freedom in the first place." When Paul says "this persuasion," he's talking about the pressure to add those rules and requirements on top of faith. He's reminding them that God's original call to them was simple and liberating, so anything pulling them in a different direction isn't coming from him. It's a compassionate way of helping confused believers recognize when they're being led astray, even if the false teachers seemed convincing at the time.
