Galatians 4:9
“But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?”
What does Galatians 4:9 mean?
Paul is asking the Galatian believers a deeply personal question about why they're sliding backward. They've experienced God's transforming love and freedom, yet they're returning to rigid religious rules and practices that never actually saved them or gave them peace, which Paul calls "weak and miserable elemental principles." The shift from "come to know God" to "be known by God" is crucial. Paul reminds them that what matters most isn't their achievement or perfect understanding, but the fact that God knows them, loves them, and has chosen them.
