Galatians 4:5
“that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of children.”
What does Galatians 4:5 mean?
Paul is describing what Jesus accomplished through his death and resurrection. When he says Christ came "to redeem those under the law," he means Jesus paid the price to free us from being trapped by our own inability to perfectly follow God's commands, which only led to shame and distance. The beautiful result is that instead of remaining slaves to guilt or rule-followers earning our way, we become adopted children of God, loved and fully belonging to his family not because we've earned it but because we're claimed by him.
