Galatians 3:5
“He therefore who supplies the Spirit to you, and does miracles among you, does he do it by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?”
What does Galatians 3:5 mean?
Paul is asking the Galatians a question that cuts to the heart of their confusion. They've experienced God's power directly, real miracles and the Holy Spirit's presence in their lives, yet some teachers were now pressuring them to follow strict Jewish laws to earn God's favor. Paul is essentially saying: "Think about it, you've already *felt* God working. Did that happen because you obeyed rules, or because you simply believed and trusted?" He's reminding them that God's generosity toward them came through faith, not through human effort or rule-keeping. For anyone wrestling with whether they're "good enough" for God or whether spiritual growth comes from checking boxes, this verse offers the same question back to us: the evidence of God's work in our lives comes through trust, not through proving ourselves.
