Galatians 3:2
“I just want to learn this from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?”
What does Galatians 3:2 mean?
Paul asks the Galatians a question designed to help them remember their own spiritual experience. When they first encountered God, did it happen because they perfectly followed religious rules, or did it come through simply hearing and trusting in the message about Jesus? He's gently pointing out that their relationship with God started the same way it continues—through faith, not through earning God's favor through effort or obedience to laws. This speaks directly to people who've felt trapped by the idea that they need to be "good enough" for God. Paul is saying that's not how faith works, and the Galatians already know this from their own lived experience. God met them where they were, through belief, not performance.
