Galatians 3:1
“Foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you not to obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openly portrayed among you as crucified?”
What does Galatians 3:1 mean?
Paul is expressing deep frustration with the Galatian churches because they've started turning away from the freedom and grace they found in Jesus. After encountering Christ directly (the "openly portrayed" crucifixion Paul references), they're now being pulled back toward rigid rule-keeping, and Paul can't understand how they've lost sight of what they already know to be true. The word "bewitched" captures how Paul sees this shift, not as a rational choice but as something that's clouded their thinking. He's not calling them stupid in a permanent way, but rather waking them up to notice they've drifted from what should be obvious.
