Ezra 5:6
“The copy of the letter that Tattenai, the governor beyond the River, and Shetharbozenai, and his companions the Apharsachites, who were beyond the River, sent to Darius the king follows.”
What does Ezra 5:6 mean?
This verse introduces an official letter being sent to King Darius by Persian officials who were suspicious of the Jewish rebuilding project in Jerusalem. When the Jews resumed construction on their temple after returning from exile, these governors wanted answers about who had authorized such work. What follows in the next verses is that actual letter, preserved for us in the historical record. It's a reminder that even when we're doing something good and right, we may still face questions and obstacles from those in authority around us, and sometimes we need to explain ourselves patiently and truthfully.
