What does Ezra 2:58 mean?

After the Jewish people returned from exile in Babylon, this verse counts the temple workers who came back with them, totaling 392 people. These were people who performed practical duties in the temple—cleaning, preparing materials, maintaining the building—rather than serving as priests. Many were descendants of foreign workers that Solomon had originally employed for large building projects. Including them in the return shows that the whole community, from the most prominent families to the laborers who kept things running, was rebuilding their homeland and their relationship with God.
