Ezekiel 7:20
“As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty; but they made the images of their abominations and their detestable things therein. Therefore I have made it to them as an unclean thing.”
What does Ezekiel 7:20 mean?
God is describing how the temple, once beautiful and set apart as a place of his majesty, became corrupted when people filled it with idols and practices he despised. The ornaments and precious things that were meant to point people toward God were instead used as settings for false gods and detestable worship. Because the people had turned something holy into something profane, God says he will treat it as unclean, stripping away its sacred status. It's a painful reality: when we take what God has blessed and use it to turn away from him, we lose the protection and blessing that came with it.
