Ezekiel 7:13
“For the seller won’t return to that which is sold, although they are still alive; for the vision concerns the whole multitude of it. None will return. None will strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life.”
What does Ezekiel 7:13 mean?
During Ezekiel's time, God used the imagery of a completed sale to show that Judah's judgment was final and irreversible. Once someone sold their land or possessions in that culture, the transaction was done, and the goods didn't come back, even if the seller lived on. Ezekiel is saying that Israel's exile and loss will be just as permanent, not something the people can undo or recover from through their own efforts. The deeper message is that when God's judgment comes, we can't simply wait it out or hope circumstances reverse themselves through our own strength or scheming. The vision God gave Ezekiel about what was coming would affect everyone, not just a few people, and the consequences would stick. There's both a sobering warning here and an invitation to stop pretending we can fix what's broken by our own power, and instead turn toward God with honesty about where we truly stand.
