Ezekiel 6:11
““Thus says the Lord Yahweh: ‘Strike with your hand, and stamp with your foot, and say, “Alas!” Because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel; for they will fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence.”
What does Ezekiel 6:11 mean?
Ezekiel is describing God's command to the prophet to physically act out a message of judgment and grief. The hand-striking and foot-stamping were visual demonstrations of deep distress, like someone might do when devastated by terrible news. By performing these gestures while warning of coming judgment, Ezekiel was making God's sorrow over Israel's unfaithfulness impossible to ignore. The "alas" captures something real: God isn't coldly announcing punishment but grieving over His people's choices to abandon Him and embrace destructive practices. The consequences Ezekiel warns of, sword, famine, and pestilence, were the actual hardships Israel would face through invasion and exile.
