What does Ezekiel 4:10 mean?

God is instructing Ezekiel to eat a carefully measured, meager amount of food as a living sign to the people of Jerusalem. Twenty shekels (about 8 ounces) was barely enough to survive on, and the phrase "from time to time" suggests irregular eating rather than normal meals. This strange command was meant to demonstrate to the exiles what starvation and rationing would look like during the coming siege of Jerusalem, making the consequences of their sin impossible to ignore. For those going through deprivation or loss of control over basic needs, this passage offers something unexpected: God sees and validates suffering. He didn't ask Ezekiel to hide his hunger or pretend everything was fine. Instead, God made his struggle visible and meaningful, turning personal hardship into a message of spiritual importance. That same God notices what you lack and what you endure.
