Ezekiel 36:23
“I will sanctify my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am Yahweh,” says the Lord Yahweh, “when I am proven holy in you before their eyes.”
What does Ezekiel 36:23 mean?
God is saying that his reputation has been damaged by the unfaithfulness of his people, and he's determined to restore it by transforming them. When the people of Israel were exiled and scattered, other nations saw this and concluded that either Israel's God was weak or didn't care, which brought shame to God's name. God promises to act decisively to show everyone, especially the surrounding nations, that he is truly holy and powerful by making his people holy again. This means that when outsiders see how God has renewed and restored his broken people, they'll recognize his character for what it really is, and God's honor will be restored in the sight of all people.
