Ezekiel 35:9
“I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.”
What does Ezekiel 35:9 mean?
Ezekiel speaks here to the nation of Edom, which had rejoiced when Jerusalem fell and treated the Israelites with cruelty during their darkest hour. God's judgment is that their land will become uninhabitable and empty, a lasting consequence for their actions. What makes this passage worth sitting with is the ending: "Then you will know that I am Yahweh." Even in announcing devastation, God's purpose isn't merely to punish but to reveal himself. The knowledge of God comes through experiencing the reality of his justice.
