Ezekiel 35:11
“therefore, as I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “I will do according to your anger, and according to your envy which you have shown out of your hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them when I judge you.”
What does Ezekiel 35:11 mean?
God is speaking here to the nation of Edom, which had harbored deep resentment toward Israel and acted on that hatred whenever the opportunity arose. The Lord is saying that he sees their anger, their jealousy, and their malice, and that he will respond in kind, not with mercy but with justice that matches the severity of their actions. What makes this passage hopeful for those listening is the last part: God says he will make himself known through this judgment. Even in pronouncing consequences, God is declaring that his character and justice will become visible to everyone. When we're suffering under others' cruelty or when we've been treated unfairly, this verse reminds us that nothing escapes God's notice. He doesn't overlook the hatred directed at his people, and his eventual response will be so clear that everyone will recognize his justice at work. That doesn't mean the hurt goes away immediately, but it means we're not left with wrongs unaddressed in God's eyes.
