Ezekiel 34:10
“Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Behold, I am against the shepherds. I will require my sheep at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the sheep. The shepherds won’t feed themselves any more. I will deliver my sheep from their mouth, that they may not be food for them.””
What does Ezekiel 34:10 mean?
God is declaring His anger at leaders who exploit those under their care instead of protecting them. In Ezekiel's time, the "shepherds" were Israel's rulers and priests who enriched themselves while the people suffered, so God promises to hold them accountable and remove their power. The image of sheep being devoured captures how vulnerable people were being harmed by those trusted to lead them. What matters most here is God's protective stance: He sees the exploitation, He cares about the vulnerable, and He will act to rescue them, even if that means removing the very leaders who claim authority.
